Laser Hair Removal
Julia Skin Beauty offers expert laser hair removal in Etobicoke, Ontario. My skincare and laser treatments are safe and effective on all skin and hair types.
I trained in laser esthetics both at an academic institution and with the manufacturers of all the machines I have worked with. I have 7 years of experience and have used several brands of laser and worked with all different skin and hair types.
Many individuals live with unwanted hair growth because of a lack of information about how to safely remove it. They are unsure about what procedure to use and who to trust when it comes to doing the procedure. Understandably, they also want to ensure that the investment of time and money will be worth it.
The Lutronic Clarity Laser: Industry-Leading Hair Removal
I am proud to have the Lutronic Clarity laser at Julia Skin Beauty. It is a dual-wavelength system using 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm ND Yag wavelengths, long considered to be the gold standard in laser hair removal.
The Lutronic Clarity laser provides remarkably effective yet comfortable treatments. It produces the best results one can expect from any hair removal laser, with no downtime and minimal reaction from the skin.
Not all laser skincare systems are equal. While most are expensive, their prices can vary by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some are of lesser quality. Or, some clinics purchase used, older and less effective systems. These factors play a role in the results you receive from your treatments.
At Julia Skin Beauty, I have invested in industry-leading skincare equipment to provide my clients with the best laser hair removal results available today.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal works by delivering thermal laser energy into the hair follicles. When the laser is applied to the skin, it is attracted to the colour in the hair growth and latches onto the (shaved) hair stubble at the skin surface. The thermal energy of the laser light then travels under the skin and destroys the follicle. The dead follicle will take a few weeks to be pushed out from under the skin and eventually the skin will become smooth and the hair growth reduced.
Most people require 6 to 10 sessions to achieve maximum, permanent hair reduction, which is typically a 70%-90% reduction in hair growth. Any remaining hair will be thinner, lighter in colour and grow much more slowly.
Contrary to popular belief, laser hair removal needs to be maintained. This typically requires 1-2 sessions per year. However, this is still significantly less maintenance, time and cost when compared to waxing or shaving on a regular basis!
The Advantages Of Laser Hair Removal
In addition to removing hair, laser hair removal benefits your skin in the following ways:
Decreases incidence of ingrown hairs
Smooths and rejuvenates the skin
Evens out pigmentation
Decreases the appearance of hair follicles
Decreases scarring that can occur from shaving, waxing or tweezing
What To Expect & How To Prepare For Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment
To prepare for laser hair removal, ensure that you have not received a natural or fake tan on the treatment area for one month prior to the procedure. Natural sunlight tans, artificial UV rays and self-tanning lotions that create a “tanned” appearance must be avoided for at least one month prior to treatment. You can receive laser treatment if you have recently received some UV exposure from daily activities but your skin is not visibly bronzed.
Shave the area to be treated one day before the procedure. The day of the procedure is also acceptable to shave, though it’s best if the skin is not irritated from shaving when laser hair removal is performed.
To be effective, the hair colour cannot be gray or white. All other colours, from lightish blonde to dark black will respond to laser hair removal treatment.
You will typically see results in 1.5 weeks to 2 months, depending on the body area.
The procedure may make the skin warm and cause temporary reddening or swelling around the hair follicle, which will subside shortly after the procedure is complete. A cooling cream will be applied immediately after the procedure to soothe and calm the skin.
Following laser hair removal, it is important to protect the skin from extended UV exposure for approximately 1 month, as laser treatment temporarily makes skin more sensitive to UV. Simply cover treated areas with clothing and protect exposed areas with SPF30+ daily.
