ProCell Therapy

Acne scars, sun damage, wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of vibrancy—as we live, inevitably, these things happen to us. Still, with Julia Skin Beauty in your corner, you don’t simply have to accept your skin's imperfections. With therapies like ProCell Treatments, we can help you reverse the blemishes of time.

ProCell Therapies is a safe, convenient skin treatment that works by stimulating your body’s natural ability to create new skin with no surgery, needles, or invasive treatment required. Instead, we use cutting-edge biotechnology to create microchannels in your skin.

Each microchannel creates a slight injury to your skin. Don’t worry, though. This “injury” is so tiny that you won’t experience any pain, but your skin will respond with an inflammatory healing response. In turn, your body will start to create new collagen, which is key for achieving visibly smooth, plump, firm, and youthful skin.

How It Works

Physician developed in 2013, ProCell Therapy is a new and improved version of an age-old technique used to erase skin imperfections. While it might not have the same well-known status as other treatments like Botox, it’s just as effective for anti-ageing. When you consider that this treatment is non-invasive, some might even say it’s more effective. First, let’s chat about how ProCell Therapy works.

  • What are the benefits of ProCell Therapy?

If you’re looking for a non-invasive skin treatment that can provide you with visibly improved skin, ProCell Therapy is worth researching.

Some of the most common benefits that our clients see after treatment include:

    • Reduced or eliminated scarring
    • Improved appearance of stretch marks
    • Reduced wrinkles and fine lines
    • Improved skin texture and tone
    • Overall healthy, rejuvenated skin
    • Reduced pore size
    • Less hyperpigmentation
    • Improved skin elasticity

Clients also love that the procedure is non-invasive and relies on your body’s natural ability to heal itself. In other words, you don’t have to inject yourself with any harmful chemicals or book an invasive surgery to achieve radiant, youthful skin.

  • What tools are used?

We use a small tool developed specifically for ProCell Therapy. This tool punctures tiny holes in the skin (i.e. “microchannels”).

Don’t let this deter you, though.

These “holes” are so small that you shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort throughout your procedure.

We then apply serum to the skin but keep in mind that this serum is not the basic serum from Sephora. This serum is explicitly developed for ProCell Therapy

This serum is infused with human growth factors and derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells to promote scarless healing with minimal inflammation.

In addition, because we created those small punctures or “microchannels,” your skin can easily soak up all the skin-loving ingredients found in this powerful serum.

After your session, you’ll find that your body naturally starts producing more collagen and elastin for more vibrant, youthful and plump skin.

  • Does the procedure hurt?

When clients first hear about how ProCell Therapy works, they often have some reservations about the small punctures (i.e. microchannels) we create in the skin.

We want to assure you that this is not an overly painful procedure even though we create these small punctures in the skin; however, slight discomfort is involved.

Think of it this way: the process isn’t nearly as invasive as something like surgery, but you also likely won’t be as relaxed as you would be if you were merely getting a facial.

You also might experience some redness for 1-2 days after your procedure. It is entirely normal and nothing to worry about. Most clients find relief by simply applying a cold washcloth to their skin.

  • What is the difference between microneedling and microchanneling?

Most clients have heard of microneedling if they’ve looked into skin care procedures, which often causes some confusion when reading about ProCell Therapy, which utilizes microchanneling.

Essentially, microchanneling is the new and improved microneedling.

Microneedling uses either a rolling device or a stamping device. The stamping device used in microneedling is similar to that used in micro-channeling, but covers a smaller surface area and therefore provides a more concentrated treatment. By comparison, ProCell treats a wider surface area each time the device touches the skin, making the treatment more quick, comfortable and gentle.

Because ProCell uses specialized stem cells as part of the treatment protocol, although it is more gentle than traditional microneedling, the results are equally as good or better.

Both treatments are very similar because they stimulate a healing response to improve imperfection in the skin. However, ProCell does this using a more gentle and less invasive approach.

For you this means less risk of complications and faster healing time. It's a win-win!

  • Is the serum necessary?

Perhaps you have your favourite serum, and you think you’ll be able to use this after your ProCell Therapy treatment.

While we’re sure your serum is great for everyday use, it won’t give you the same effects as if you were to use the serum specifically designed for this treatment.

Specifically formulated, the serum helps your skin continue producing growth factors even between treatments.

The stem cell serum is applied during and throughout the treatment. There are also 2 other serums for homecare that clients take home with them at no additional charge - it's included in the price of their treatment. The most important part of this is that the stem cell serum is a part of the ProCell treatment that is done in-clinic.

A good analogy here would be to think about the benefits of exercise without a good diet. If you do your microchanneling treatment, but then you don’t apply the serum, it’s like you’re exercising without adding the necessary diet component. You’ll see some results, but they won’t be as good.

What To Expect

ProCell Therapy is gaining popularity, but it’s still not as mainstream as other traditional cosmetic treatments. Because of this, you may not know as many people who have experienced ProCell Therapy, and you may not know what to expect. So let us help give you some insight.

  • What should I expect during my appointment?

We want you to be as comfortable as possible throughout your appointment. It is why providing a relaxing and inviting space is essential to us at Julia Skin Beauty.

Most clients don't find the stamping tool we use to be painful, but you won't find your treatment to be as relaxing as this procedure can cause some slight discomfort. While most clients aren’t bothered much by the stamping tool we use, you won’t find your treatment to be as relaxing as a facial, for example. Because of this, we are even more dedicated to ensuring our facilities are as relaxing as possible.

Beyond this, you won’t have to do any work during your appointment. Instead, lay back and let your technician stimulate your skin’s natural ability to heal itself.

**Note: Please discontinue the use of retinol-based products, AHAs and BHAs for one week before your appointment. These ingredients make your skin more fragile and can cause sensitivity that does not combine well with the ProCell treatment.

  • What should I expect after my appointment?

Immediately following your appointment, you will likely experience some redness and slight facial swelling. However, you should find that swelling goes down within an hour or two, while redness can last up to two days.

We recommend waiting at least 6 hours after your procedure before applying anything to the skin. After this, you can apply the post-care products we provide you with, or a mild moisturizer. Ideally, you will wait until the next morning to apply anything and these products would include a mild cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.

You may find that the skin feels slightly sunburned where the microchanneling occurred. With time this will subside.

As for how long you should expect to wait until you see results, most clients find that the best results start to show up 1-2 weeks after their procedure, and return to their regular activities the next day without worry or concern.

To ensure your comfort, we use a mild topical anaesthetic before the procedure that is massaged into the skin. You won't feel any pain during your treatment, but you will feel slight pressure. After the treatment, you will feel a sunburn sensation for 2-5 hours. This can be soothed with a clean, damp compress.

You may also experience some mild itching for a day or two after the treatment while the skin heals, as well as tightness or dryness. This can be addressed with the post-care products we provide to you, as well as by using a good moisturizer for a couple weeks following the procedure.

  • How often should I book? Are results permanent?

There is no one size fits all answer to this question. How many appointments you require will vary greatly depending on your goals, the current state of your skin, and what exactly we are treating.

In general, if you’re undergoing ProCell Therapy to help reverse some initial signs of ageing, you may be happy with 2-3 sessions.

If you're coming to us with acne scarring or more advanced signs of aging, then 4-6 treatments might be more appropriate.

Remember: It will take 1-2 weeks for visible signs of improvement to the skin.

Also, keep in mind that ProCell Therapy is not a permanent solution to ageing. Your skin will continue to age if you don’t schedule maintenance appointments. However, most clients find that they can keep their skin looking smooth, fresh and radiant with an annual or bi-annual maintenance session after an initial series of treatments is completed.

  • Should anyone avoid ProCell Therapy?

ProCell Therapy is a relatively non-invasive procedure. As mentioned, it does cause some slight discomfort, but most clients can come in for their appointment and return to their regular, everyday activities without worry or concern.

Of course, we like to clarify that there are always some exceptions, and clients should be cautious if struggling with a medical condition.

We don’t recommend undergoing ProCell Therapy if any of the following applies to you:

    • Cancer
    • Diabetes
    • Pregnancy
    • Active inflammatory skin conditions, including including rosacea, eczema and active acne
    • Accutane (need to be off Accutane for at least six months to undergo this treatment)
    • Overly dry/irritated skin
    •  Prescribed use of blood thinning medications

If you’re unsure if ProCell Therapy is an appropriate treatment for you, we always offer a 1-1 consultation with all of our clients before treatment. This way, we can talk about your goals and discuss any concerns about the treatment.

  • What should I do after my treatment?

Taking care of your skin after your treatment and between sessions is extremely important and can make all the difference in how long your results last and how good they look.

Some things you can do to keep your results looking great include:

    • Avoid applying anything to your skin for at least 6 hours after your procedure aside from a cool compress or the post-care serums provided.
    • Avoid cleansing for at least 6 hours after your appointment
    • Avoid exercise, swimming, and saunas for at least 72 hours
    • Using proper sun protection is extremely important. When possible, avoid direct sunlight entirely the week following your procedure
    • Skip any exfoliating products for seven days after treatment.

In general, we recommend keeping your skin as natural as possible after your procedure. Applying abrasive products, over-cleansing, or just generally exposing yourself to harsh conditions like the sun can impede the skin’s healing process (i.e. the primary mechanism that makes ProCell Therapy so effective).

ProCell and Other Treatments

ProCell Therapy is a highly effective procedure all on its own, but occasionally we have some clients who want to combine procedures to ramp up their results. Here we’ll provide you with all the necessary information for the most impressive outcome.

  • What treatments to avoid

First thing's first, let’s talk about the treatments you should avoid if you plan on receiving ProCell Therapy.

We recommend not scheduling waxing, chemical peels, other cosmetic procedures or using retinol or exfoliants on the area(s) to be treated for 2 weeks prior to your ProCell Therapy treatment.

    Why?

Remember: microchanneling involves creating tiny punctures in your skin. While this is safe and non-invasive, if we combine it with products or treatments that irritate the skin just prior, we increase the chances of creating unnecessary trauma to the skin. This can result in unnecessary side effects or longer healing times.

As mentioned, your best course of action prior to a ProCell Therapy treatment is to have fresh skin with as little treatment done to it as possible (i.e. no retinol or harsh creams).

The kinder you are to your skin before treatment, the better results you’ll have with your ProCell Therapy.

  • 1-1 consultation

We are very proud to offer 1-1 consultations for all of our treatments. At Julia Skin Beauty, you are always our priority. We want to help you get the best results possible and always make recommendations based on your goals and our expertise.

While some clients come to us thinking that ProCell Therapy might be for them, once they start telling us about their skincare concerns and problems, we might discover that there is, in fact, a much better solution for them.

With our 1-1 consultations, we can inform you if ProCell Therapy is for you and provide you with the best recommendations if you are interested in combining different therapies.

  • Will I benefit from JUST ProCell Therapy?

    Absolutely!

Despite these other treatments being possibilities, they are not necessary for achieving the results you crave.

ProCell Therapy is a highly effective treatment all on its own. While most clients require multiple sessions to reach their goals, for some, 1-2 is possible.

Regardless, with the combination of the microchanneling that stimulates more collagen production in your body and the advanced serums we use, ProCell Therapy is one of the most effective skincare treatments we offer.

Try it today, and we have a feeling you'll understand what all the buzz is about!
